The 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay on Kauai’s North Shore has opened its doors.
A redo of the former St. Regis Princeville, the 252-room resort is fresh off a $300 million transformation, which involved an extensive redesign and the replacement of the site’s non-native and invasive plant species with native and more wildlife-friendly vegetation.
As part of the revamp, the property’s original lobby building has largely been removed, replaced with garden and stream features. The current entranceway, lobby and reception areas now showcase an array of natural materials, including reclaimed teak, lava stone walls and locally sourced abaca, a natural leaf fiber.
The nature-inspired elements extend to the resort’s 252 guestrooms, which are outfitted with a mix of teak and abaca furniture. The 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay’s top-tier accommodations, which include the two-story Puu Poa Ocean Loft Suite, the Napali House Suite and Makana Penthouse, offer private terraces with ocean and mountain views.
The property has a total of seven culinary outlets, including all-day restaurant 1 Kitchen, modern Japanese concept Welina Terrace, poolside eatery The Sandbox, snack bar Kai Maikai, all-day grab-and-go Neighbors, shaved ice venue Waioli, a juice bar and the Lobby Farmstand, where guests can shop a selection of fresh produce.
The 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay is also home to the 18,000-square-foot Bamford Wellness Spa, created in partnership with sustainable and organic wellness entrepreneur Carole Bamford. Spa amenities include a cryotherapy chamber, hyperbaric chamber, infrared saunas with halotherapy, Dreampod ice baths, a Somadome meditation pod and a salt pod flotation chamber, among other offerings.
On the fitness front, guests have access to Anatomy, a 10,000 square-foot fitness center concept helmed by former NFL player Marc Megna. In addition to cardio equipment, strength training and group classes, the center offers both indoor and outdoor yoga spaces.
In May, the property will bolster its wellness offering with the 1 x Vitahealth Medi Spa, billed as an “integrated medicine program,” set to be staffed by a team of doctors, registered nurses and nurse practitioners. Treatments will include options like Hormone Regulation Therapy, Brain Health Therapy and gastrointestinal, nutritional and anti-aging testing and analysis.
Also in May, the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay will launch a retreat program, developed in partnership with fitness and lifestyle wellness brand XPT Life.
Also on offer: Access to electric Audi e-tron vehicles, bikes and e-bikes, plus pickleball, tennis, surfing and golf at the Princeville Makai Golf Club.
The 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay is the ninth property for sustainable luxury flag 1 Hotels, which is part of Starwood Capital Group’s SH Hotels & Resorts portfolio. It joins 1 Hotels in Miami, Manhattan, Brooklyn, West Hollywood, Nashville, San Francisco, Toronto and Sanya, China.
