Space Perspective, a space tour operator that will use a high-altitude balloon to launch explorers into space, said it has sold more than 1,600 seats, reaching the milestone of $200 million in sales.
A flight on the Spaceship Neptune capsule costs $125,000 per person. Commercial flights are slated to begin at the end of 2024. Space Perspective says it is booking up to three years out.
The company says nearly half of the reservations are for a full capsule, indicating that travelers are seeking a shared experience with friends and family.
North America is by far the largest source of ticket sales, the company says, but a growing percentage of those sales are from elsewhere, especially the Asia Pacific region.
