Noting increasing demand for its fly-and-cruise program, Antarctica21 will introduce a new ship in the 2026-27 Antarctic season.
The Magellan Discoverer will be a sister ship to the Magellan Explorer, meet PC6 ice class specifications and have a “yacht-like aesthetic,” according to the line.
The ship will accommodate 76 guests in 40 cabins across three passenger decks. That capacity is equal to the maximum number of passengers the line flies over the Drake Passage, as almost all of its sailings include a flyover component.
The Magellan Discoverer will have two family suites accommodating four guests each, two “triple deluxe” veranda suites, 22 deluxe veranda cabins and six single deluxe veranda cabins.
The ship will also have a wet science lab to support Antarctic research, a sauna and an elevator. It will use a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion and heat-recovery system.
