Adventure travel is slowly reopening domestically.
Backroads
will begin running a limited number of trips in the U.S. in the third week of
June, with hopes of expanding its offerings in July and August.
And, Western River Expeditions will resume Grand Canyon
rafting trips on June 14, with new openings on the normally hard-to-get
itineraries due to Covid-19-related cancellations. Western River is implementing health protocols for the trips.
“Select departures from June through September of 2020 now
have limited availability,” said chief marketing officer Brandon Lake.
“Normally, last-minute inquiries would be directed to 2021 or even 2022
selections. This is an incredible opportunity for those who are making
last-minute plans and feel like an outdoor adventure may be the best choice for
a summer adventure this year.”
Backroads’ initial itineraries include trips to Yellowstone
and the Grand Tetons, a walking and hiking tour in North Carolina,
a bike trip in Utah, and family National Park tour in Utah and Arizona.
For the initial departures, the company said it will have
smaller groups and follow enhanced health safety protocols.
