American Airlines is targeting snowbirds with several new routes exclusively for the President’s Day holiday weekend.
On Saturday, Feb. 17, and Saturday, Feb. 24, American Airlines will operate five nonstop routes from New York and Boston to a handful of popular Florida destinations, the carrier confirmed to Travel + Leisure.
From New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA), American will offer once-daily service to Palm Beach (PBI), Sarasota (SRQ), and Tampa (TPA), offering mid-morning departures before returning in the early afternoon. American will fly between New York and Palm Beach on its A319 aircraft, while its New York to Sarasota and Tampa flights will be on a smaller E175 aircraft.
American will also operate once-daily flights from Boston to Key West (EYW) on an E175 aircraft and Palm Beach (PBI) on an A319 aircraft. Tickets are on sale for these President’s Day holiday flights through American’s website or mobile app.
“We continuously evaluate our network for opportunities to add flying as warranted,” a spokesperson for Frontier shared in a statement provided to T+L. “We do often specifically add flights for higher-demand travel periods – such as the Presidents’ Day holiday for February. We’ve also recently announced additional flights for the Super Bowl in Vegas and Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, where we will offer special service between JFK and Las Vegas, which we traditionally do not operate, so these kinds of special flights do happen throughout our network.”
All five of these Florida routes are already operated on a year-round basis by JetBlue, its former Northeast Alliance partner, with the exception of LaGuardia to Sarasota which will end in March 2024 following a slew of route cuts from the carrier. The Northeast Alliance, which was struck down by a federal judge in mid-July, previously allowed the two airlines to expand their routes in New York and Boston and offer codeshare flights and reciprocal loyalty benefits to its customers.
That’s not all for American’s route announcements for 2024. On March 28, the airline will beef up its Mexico routes with year-round service to Tulum’s new airport from its hubs at Dallas-Fort Worth, Charlotte, and Miami.
Later in June 2024, American will increase frequencies to nearly a dozen flights to the Caribbean and Latin America, highlighting its strong demand for warm-weather, leisure destinations across its network.
