Less than a year after the debut of Explora Journeys, CEO Michael Ungerer is leaving the MSC-owned luxury cruise line.

His departure is due to personal reasons, according to a press release.
Ungerer has served as CEO of the line for nearly five years, which included developing the luxury brand and launching the line’s first ship, the Explora I. Its sister ship, Explora II, is expected to debut in late summer.
Ungerer will remain an advisor for Explora Journeys until the end of August. Pierfrancesco Vago, executive chairman of the MSC Group cruise division, will assume Ungerer’s responsibilities as CEO for the time being.
