From unique architectural gems to downright unusual, Zillow has some pretty unconventional listings. (There is even a popular Instagram account documenting them.) But starting today, you can place bids to own a fully furnished elf house.
The one-bedroom, one-bathroom home is part of a campaign by the skyr company Icelandic Provisions, which listed it on the real estate platform. The impossibly cute two-square-foot residence looks straight out of a fairy tale — its facade is painted traditional red, and its roof is covered in moss.
“This cozy elf cottage features magical, panoramic views of blades of grass and the feet of passersby. It’s a little (we mean really little) slice of paradise that you could call your own for the attractive price of 18 tiny bits and bobs (or best offer),” states the listing’s tongue-in-cheek description, adding that the “pint-sized” property comes with “Skyr insurance” — a life-sized fridge full of Icelandic Provisions skyr and a reward of $10,000.
Inside, the home is decorated to resemble a traditional Icelandic house with tiny faux-fur rugs, a napping bench, patchwork quilts, wooden furnishings, and matching tile floor and countertops. The living room has a stone fireplace, and its walls are lined with miniature photographs and paintings.
To win the elf home, you should put an offer on elfrealtor.com. But don’t worry, you’re not actually bidding real money on the house — offers vary between “six pairs of mini shoes” and “14 small rocks.” You have until Nov. 30 at midnight to put in your best bid for a chance to win the prize.
“Buying a home in today’s market can come with challenges and feel out of reach for many, which is why we’re so excited to bring a mix of possibility, Icelandic lore, and some light-hearted fun to fans everywhere looking to become homeowners,” Dan Hickle, the company’s chief marketing officer, said in a press release obtained by Travel + Leisure. (In 2007, a survey by the University of Iceland found that 62 percent of Icelanders believe in elves, and nowadays, you can find mini-elf homes set up throughout the country.)
