Universal Orlando Resort is working on its “most terrifying attraction yet.”
Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment will bring guests face to face with legendary monsters from Universal’s silver screen as well as new characters like Dr. Victoria Frankenstein, the Florida resort revealed in a press release Thursday.
And unlike with Halloween Horror Nights, this experience will live on all year long at the resort’s highly anticipated new theme park, Universal Epic Universe, opening next year.
Here’s what horror fans should know about the coming attraction and the rest of Epic Universe’s Dark Universe.
What is the Dark Universe at Epic?
Dark Universe is one of five new lands being created for Epic Universe.
This one is set as the eerie village of Darkmoor, home to Frankenstein Manor and all sorts of creepy creatures.
How scary will it be?
Universal is aiming for just the right amount of scary in this brainchild of Universal Creative and Universal Pictures.
The resort said Dark Universe will offer “family-friendly fun while also pushing the boundaries on intensity.”
What rides will Dark Universe have?
Dark Universe will feature two rides.
Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment is set inside Frankenstein Manor. Guests are invited to watch Dr. Victoria Frankenstein work on “twisted experiments,” just like her great-great-grandfather, “but her plans go awry when her attempts to control the most dangerous of monsters, Dracula, fails, unleashing a horde of enraged monsters,” according to Universal. “Guests are then thrust into an intense ride through the darkness as they try to evade the grasps of The Wolf Man, The Mummy, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Brides of Dracula and others.
Curse of the Werewolf is a spinning family coaster inspired by “The Wolf Man.” The attraction begins on the edge of Darkmoor, where guests meet a mystic seer who “warns them that they bear the mark of the werewolf. Guests then board a wagon and venture into the forest – racing to escape the werewolves before they become one themselves,” Universal said.

For a fee, guests can also undergo a monstrous transformation of their own with the Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience.
When hunger strikes, guests can sink their teeth into bites from three different eateries: Das Stakehaus, The Burning Blade Tavern, and Dr. Lacey’s Cottage food stand.
What else is going to be at Epic Universe?
Four other worlds are being created for Universal Epic Universe.
- Celestial Park will be a cosmic world that also serves as the gateway to the park’s other worlds.
What month will Epic Universe open?
Universal hasn’t revealed an exact opening timeframe yet, only that it will be sometime in 2025.
